Game development is often described as a mix of art, science, and endurance. Many stories capture this like that of Roosevelt Kasimba Mwandira, a Malawian game developer who has been steadily carving out his space in the global gaming industry.

Roosevelt’s journey began in late 2015, when he first started exploring game development. Just a year later, he launched his first mobile game, Terror Evocation, on the Google Play Store. What started as a passion project quickly turned into a career path.

After graduating, Roosevelt dived into the world of freelance game development, creating games for clients across the globe while also pursuing his own creative projects. His dedication has paid off, he has now developed and completed over 25 games.

Over time, Roosevelt expanded beyond mobile games. Since last year, he has shifted his focus to PC games, with his titles collectively reaching over 70,000 installs and racking up an incredible 10 million total views on YouTube and other platforms. His upcoming project, The Dreadthorn Therapist, marks his first commercial Steam release, signaling yet another milestone in his growing career.

Roosevelt is quick to point out that game development is not for the faint of heart.

“Game dev is a very demanding field when it comes to time and passion, you need these two to survive,” he says.

But while the challenges are real, the opportunities have never been greater:

“Now is the best time to start because the barrier of entry has never been so low. The industry is very big and with the right passion and plan, anybody can make something that resonates with people around the world. Let your imagination go wild.”

Roosevelt’s story is a reminder that persistence, creativity, and vision can take you from experimenting on small mobile games to preparing a commercial release for one of the biggest PC gaming platforms in the world.
